Chris' Office Before and After

It has been almost three years since we posted the progress on Chris' office and, although the space has been done for a while, we're just getting around to showing you the before and after. Sorry, apparently we're terrible at blogging. As you may already know, this room has been a little bit of a fiasco. Between finding the perfect blue, to trying and failing at a high gloss ceiling, this room certainly has had its ups and downs and tested Chris' patience.

Just like all of the other rooms, we started out with a pretty boring and basic space with stucco ceiling and a single centre-room tit light. We dropped the ceiling, added recessed lighting, installed in-ceiling speakers, and made a custom built-in desk nook with floating shelves.

Chris needed a dedicated office since his radiology program is quite demanding and he is required to study many, many hours every night (yes weekends too). He needed a place of his own where he could close the door and escape into X-ray land, away from my distracting TV shows!

The room was finished with navy painted walls and warmed up with leather and brown-toned accessories. The end result we were aiming for was a dark, cozy man cave. It is one of only two rooms in our house that is not white, black, or grey. For this reason, we found it particularly difficult to decorate, since it branches out from our otherwise monochrome palette! 

Originally we were looking for a knock off Barcelona day bed for the room so that it could double as a guest room, but we couldn't find one for a good price. But we lucked out when we found this Barcelona couch chilling at Winners for $499!

You may recognize the metal wall sculpture from round three of Creating With The Stars. It was made from scrap metal and is back lit with LEDs.

The coffee table was a simple DIY project using two crates I picked up at Michael's. You can see the how-to here.

We decided to go with a simple single white mat and metal frame on Chris' degrees (poor old B.Sc is hiding behind the door).

We decided early on that we wanted to have a built-in desk and floating shelves, which you can learn how to make here.

Over the summer Chris got the opportunity to meet his favourite second favourite girl in the world, Taylor Swift. This is the closest thing to a poster you'll find in our house.

The office wouldn't be complete without a cozy pair of down-filled study slippers and some lush green plants.

That's it! It was a long time coming, but better late than never. Because we will be renting our house out for a year, we need to turn this room back into a bedroom. So stay tuned for that transformation.
