As you guys know, the majority of our house is made up of neutral colours and textures. My home office is a slightly different story. Even though the walls are still black and white, I've injected a bit more colour (i.e. red) into the space. Now normally I dislike red as an accent colour. In fact, a few years ago I spent over $100 to paint a red wall in our entry way and I absolutely HATED it. Since I spent so much money on the expensive Aura paint and primer, Chris made me live with it for a year even though every day I was dying to paint it white. It is white now.

I wanted the space to be a fun, creative environment as this would be my every day workspace since I work from home. I got some of the larger furniture pieces from Ikea, some of the accessories from Winners, and I am still using my grandfather's desk which I painted when we moved in. I also wanted a few places to display my design books and collection of art toys.

Let's take a moment and have a look at the ceiling. Originally, we had one fixture in the centre accompanied by some lovely stucco. We decided to add pot lights (on dimmers of course) and plank out the ceiling with wood boards which we painted black.

I took some old wire hangers from the dry cleaners and spray painted them matte black and pinned them to the wall to hold magazines.

I accessorized the office with my collection of art toys and some design books.

My computer died over christmas (sad face), but it gave me an opportunity (finally) to get the new Mac Pro that I have been drooling over since it came out. Fits perfectly on my desk.

I picked up three Plog-its from SAM design and strung them around the office. I bought cheap hooks from the hardware store, spray painted them matte black to match the ceiling, and screwed them right into the wood planks on the ceiling. I dropped two of the lights down over my desk and one next to the chair in the corner of the room. These bad boys are on dimmers too, since they're a little blinding if you're sitting at the desk.
