That Time We Met Scott McGillivray and Brian Baeumler
Last month, Chris and I traveled to Toronto to attend Blog Podium, a conference for design and lifestyle bloggers.
I was SO nervous and excited (but did I mention nervous)? OMG. Luckily, at the very last minute Chris was available to come which made things a little easier. We had such an amazing time.
It was so great to meet bloggers from all over Canada who we have "met" on the internet but never in real life. We made some new friends, listened to some great speakers, and took in some informative workshops. We even came home with a prize! We won a $500 gift certificate from Nuheat for in floor heating, perfect for our upcoming bathroom renovation!
Chris and I left with some new knowledge and lots of motivation to improve our blog and keep true to ourselves. Most of the speakers really pressed how important it was to stay yourself and be original. To blog for yourself and not for others. To write what you want to write and not what you think your readers might want to hear. Valuable words I think!
It was so cool to hear Scott McGillivray speak about his journey to success and he gave a lot of good advice. I also fan girled a ton when I came back to the room after a bathroom break and he was sitting on the stage right in front of me! Eeeek!
"Be careful who you hire and fire because one day they may hire and fire you." - Scott McGillivray
Later on in the day I actually got to meet Scott AND Bryan!!! I was actually dying, my face hurt from smiling.
Chris' "should I be worried?" face.
We attended the workshops on Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimization and had a ton of questions that were answered by the lovely ladies over at Camp Tech.
It was also pretty amazing to network with the sponsors of the event. Etsy, Dricore, Ryobi, Nuheat to name a few. Of course we couldn't pass by the Etsy photobooth without being idiots. (Top right in the pic below is my favorite).

We had some thick business cards made up that arrived just in time for our trip! They were printed on uncoated 34pt stock with a painted edge in Pantone 297. Printed by one of our favorite print shops Jak Prints.
We chose some outfits that reflect our personality for the conference. Here is what we wore (me looking a little dishevelled after a long day, Chris looking dapper as usual).
Shirt: Indochino, Blazer: ASOS, Pocket Square: Cantucci, Tie: Primark, Denim: Nudie Jeans, Shoes: Rockport, Watch: Aeon Attire
Hat, Sweater, Shirt, Pants: H&M, Collar Pins and Shoes: River Island, Watch: Michael Kors
Big ups to Jennifer Flores and the rest of the Blog Podium team for putting off an amazing event. Hopefully we will be able to make it up again next year and meet some of the other bloggers we didn't get a chance to talk to.
