Main Bathroom Before and After
I survived three weeks without a functioning shower. It was worth it. Between bathing at my parents or doing the whole sponge bath thing, our one and only full bathroom is FINALLY done! I have been waiting 5 years for the chance to get at this project and am super pleased with how it turned out. I'll shut up now and show you the reveal.
This room was not a DIY; we hired my uncle Jeff from Fine Grain Woodworking to complete this for us as Chris was in the thick of studying for his big board exam. However, we did all the design and planning ourselves, just like the rest of the house. The single light fixture over the vanity was definitely not enough light, so we ordered a mirror with built in light from Ikea and paired that with two pot lights, one over the sink and one over the tub. Jeff ripped the bathroom right back to the studs and installed blue drywall through out. This gave us the chance to customize the electrical and add blocking behind the walls to support the vanity and mirror.
We ended up winning a Nuheat in-floor heating gift certificate from Blog Podium two years ago, so we decided to cash it in to replace the crappy little baseboard heater on the wall. We now have the "ragrets" that we didn't install some in our kitchen floor, SO TOASTY! We will know better next time.
Vanity, mirror, sink faucet: Ikea, toilet: Gerber, tub: MAAX, matte black shower fixtures: Brizo, shower niche: Rubinet through SAM Design, tile: Cera Gres, art: Jud Haynes, wall color: Decorators White by Benjamin Moore.
Since the bathroom was so small, we decided to keep things really clean and bright by choosing a white vanity, white walls, and a sleek toilet and tub design. We added a bit of drama with black fixtures (inspired by Susan Drover). We ordered our Cera Gres tiles though SAM Design. Speaking of which, they just opened up a Cera Gres boutique tile store downtown, SO EXCITING! If you follow me on snapchat (@beckipeckham) you have seen it a few times already. It's heart eye emoji face all over the place.
Our friend Jud Haynes makes these awesome screen prints and sells them at local downtown shop Twisted Sister Boutik. We decided to pick one up to add a small pop of color above the toilet (also comes in yellow). We love!! We also have added this one to our downstairs bathroom.
They are actually screen printed... by hand... locally... how cool is that? Fun fact: did you know Chris and I used to own a screen printing studio on Duckworth Street back in 2009? That's how we knew how to screen print those napkins in Round 2 of the CWTS competition!
Brizo makes these super cool robe hooks to match the faucets; we decided to use these for towels instead. Each set has two hooks, enough for four towels.
One of the things on my wish list for this space was a hand shower to make cleaning the stupid tub easier (I take a lot of baths, which means a LOT of cleaning). Brizo makes this shower head called Siderna which has a built in hand shower. When the hand shower is slid out, the handle has three different functions. When assembled, the shower head has three functions as well. It is a bit hard to get out, but it functions great!
I also really liked the way the temperature/on-off valve looked on this model. The diverter for the shower is hidden below the tub spout, which took Jeff and I about an hour to figure out LOL. When I say hidden I really mean it!
Originally we were looking at buying the matching sink faucet, but it was $600!! So we said "shag that" and found a black one from Ikea for $99 which matches perfect!
