Master Half Bathroom: Planning and Progress
Jeez, really thought we shared the progress on this room already. I think we shared one photo in our Master Bedroom reveal, but it was just a peek inside the door. It's been done so long I am contemplating painting the walls white. Y'all know me.
We did this room on the cheap! Like, seriously cheap. We started with an old room with an off white toilet and a vanity that was WAY too big for the space. We tore everything out and started fresh. Chris said this was "my" project, so I tackled most of it myself.
The stucco needed to be removed from the ceiling. Instead of re-drywalling this small space, it was easier to scrape the stucco off. I used a spray bottle of water and a plaster knife. If you are doing this yourself in an older home, you should get your stucco tested for asbestos before you start scraping.
I did have to call in the strong hands of The Doleboy to get this vanity out for me.
I really wanted to keep costs down since we were in the middle of finishing up the main part of our house. I had some left over paint from an old downtown office space I used to rent, so I used that on the walls. FREE! (sort of) Coincidentally, Boy's mom was renovating her house at the same time and had a white toilet she was getting rid of. We took that off her hands and installed it in here. FREE! I was hunting at Kent for flooring options and I came across a vinyl stick down tile in dark grey. It looked a little like leather and cost about $25 to do this whole room so I went for it. We picked up a tiny, high gloss white vanity at Rona for about $150. The size makes a massive difference in the room, making it feel much larger. The vanity does have a small amount of storage under the sink, but we picked up a high gloss cabinet from Ikea to store sunscreen, bandaids, and first aid supplies.I needed him again for the light fixture, which I think cost around $25 (the fixture, not his labour. That was FREE!)To go with the New York theme of the room, we printed and framed one of Chris' photographs from his first trip to the big apple. It's an abstract photo of the yellow lights on the escalator at the Hudson Hotel. This was framed in an oversized mat with a gun metal frame to match the prints in the bathroom.
