What's In My (Helicopter) EDC Pouch

EDC Pouch Tour

Over the last few years I’ve found myself needing a few essential items during our Helicopter trips. I built out an EDC pouch to contain the essentials, this is the break down.

Originally I had quite a large case put together that i’d cart around on our trips. The case contained a flashlight, pack of cards, pen and note book, charge cables for our phones, and space for other stuff. Over time I found it to be too large to be practical for every day use. It was a too big to fit in my helmet bag, it took up too much space in any of my camera bags, and some of the stuff inside was more appropriate for a camping kit than an every day carry.

I decided to start from scratch, to build out a pouch with essentials like a knife, light, tools, and some medications. Later i’ll be building out a go-to small carry camera bag for our short trips which will house this EDC pouch, a small camera kit, as well as some necessities incase we get stranded overnight. That’s to come, but for now here’s what‘s in my Helicopter EDC pouch.

The Pouch

When I was looking for a pouch I wanted something small enough to fit in any of my small bags, but most importantly inside my helmet while it was in it’s storage bag. I wanted something with great zippers, lots of interior compartments, and a place to attach an s-biner to the exterior. I settled on the Alpaka HUB Hook and Loop pouch because it looked to have the storage options I needed and it had a zippered pouch on the outside along with a strip of hook and loop for patches. So far the quality seems to be great, we will see how it holds up through 2023 and our next adventures.

The Tools

We always have an assortment of tools inside the helicopter that Chris uses to make any adjustments, but I wanted to have a back up just incase. BigI Design recently released the Bit Bar II and it was just what I was looking for. We also have the CIVIVI Baby Banter knife in our first aid kit, but it’s not that accesable for every day use as the bag sits under the back seats. I bought a second one as our daily driver. It’s been a fantastic little knife to have on hand and i love how it’s wearing in on the clip.

The Essentials

I wanted to include a pen and paper in my kit incase we needed to draw something, leave a note for someone, or use it for starting a fire. I also tossed in a 128GB micro SD with a SD Adapter in the off chance we leave for a trip and forget a card. It’s a bit of a safety net that we can use in either the GoPro’s, Drone, or our cameras if we change some settings.

If you’ve been around a while and have seen a lot of our vids you’ll know I struggle with stomach issues and motion sickness. I never go ANYWHERE without a small pharmacy JUST INCASE! So I picked up a little pill bottle from the drug store and that holds Anaprox, Advil, Tylenol, Gravol, and Imodium for emergencies.

The Light

I was really hoping to include a headlamp in my kit, but it was just a bit too big for the pouch I had. I opted for the Olight iT3 EOS in Black because it has a clip which allows you to attach it to a hat effectively turning it into a headlamp. One of us usually has a ball cap with us when we travel especially during the summer, so I thought this was a good addition. 5 lumens on low, 180 on high, runs on one AAA battery, it’s a light I won’t be using constantly but good to have in a pinch. We usually keep a headlamp and small flashlight in the center compartment of the helicopter, but always good to have incase one runs out of batteries.

So that’s what’s currently in my helicopter EDC pouch. I’m looking forward to carrying this through the next few months and see what works, what doesn’t, and if there’s anything I completely missed!
