Buffalo Apartment Primary Bedroom

Before I can get to sharing updates and post about our new house (which are coming soon by the way) I want to share some of the little makeovers we did in our previous apartment. This was our primary bedroom back in our last apartment which we tried to tackle in one weekend. Of course, renovations and makeovers never tend to go as smooth as we hope and this space actually took a bit longer.

If you want to see a video version of this post you can watch it here:

We didn’t want to paint all the walls (it was a rental and we didn’t want to have to paint EVERYTHING back at the end) but we had a little left over paint from the living room so we painted one accent wall in Grey by Benjamin Moore to cozy up the space.

Chris and I are not fans of carpet. Unfortunately, because this was a rental we had to work with what we had. We used a rug toward the end of the bed to break up the beige carpet and add a little interest to the floor.

The bed and end tables travelled with us from Vancouver. If you guys saw our Vancouver apartment tour you know we went super bright white in that space, it was nice to see that bright green head board against a moody dark grey wall. The nightstands were previously hidden away in our closet but we ended up using them here next to the bed. We didn’t want to buy new furniture because we knew we would be moving in the near future, so we ended up shopping the house and using what we had.

We layered up the bed using black and white sheets, black and cream pillows and throws, and a light grey linen duvet which was SO soft. I had never used linen before but now I want to use it on everything in our new bedroom.

We reused our wooden frames from Vancouver and replaced the maps with a panorama print which we broke up into two pieces. We also stole our DIY Nelson Bench from St. John’s and moved it down to Buffalo with us. It’s one of those special pieces of furniture we want to keep around for years to come. Reminds us of that Creating With The Stars era.

I have a slight obsession with National Parks. I picked up these retro post cards during our trip to the Grand Canyon and decided to feature them on the wall by clipping them onto some small clipboards I got from Amazon.

On the opposite side of the room we used a mid century modern sideboard we got from Article as our dresser. We didn’t need drawers as we already had a closet full of storage, so we opted for a sideboard instead since it would be more versatile when we moved.

We definitely could have used a proper lamp on the dresser for some light, but as I mentioned we we’re working with what we had and didn’t want to commit to anything before we moved. We used a 3M removable hook on the wall to mount a rope pendant light so give a soft little glow.
