Production Room Before and After

Wow, I can’t believe we went five years with this room being an absolute state. After the move to Vancouver forced us to get our shit together and finish the remaining rooms, this one in particular got a major overhaul. The “production room” originally was used for printing photos, stretching canvas, cutting vinyl, etc., but with the move we sold our printer and decided to turn the space into a reading/library/study room with built in work desk. The room gets such beautiful natural light, and with access to the newly finished patio, it's quickly becoming my new favourite room.

Originally the owners used this space as a den. There was a second set of stairs leading from the kitchen to this room which we felt were a little unnecessary, so we removed them. Who needs two sets of stairs four feet apart from each other? You can see the production room progress post here.

After removing the stairs, we had a big blank wall. Right from the start we planned on adding a built in work desk. Because we were running out of time and Chris was studying for his big Royal Collage exam, we hired my Uncle Barry of BarPar Woodworking to build this beast for us (he also fixed our wall and ceiling which had been damaged in a huge leak we had a few years back). 

We ordered some re-positional wallpaper from CB2 for the backsplash, and installed some built in speakers from Monoprice because you obviously can’t do work without a few delicious tunes.  

We ordered these Danish Walnut handles from Lee Valley. Countertop was ordered from Ikea.

Since we were turning my office into temporary storage, and Chris' office into a spare bedroom, we reused a lot of the furniture from those spaces here. When we get back, we will turn my office into a co-working space for Chris and I and leave his former office as a spare room.

Now that this room is complete, the interior of the house is finally finished! When we return we have lots of work to do to the outside, but we do plan on doing a few room makeovers. All in all I am looking forward to relaxing in a clean, finished house though. Chris and I won't know what to do with ourselves!
