Guest Bathroom Before and After

Finally!!! Some before and after pictures for you to look at. Sorry for the wait folks, they should start flowing now. Below is the "before" picture of the bathroom as we saw it when we were first viewing the property. This bathroom is on the main level, just as you enter the house. We wanted this to be the bathroom that all our guests would use, rather than using our personal one upstairs. Since this is not our main bath, having really good light for doing make up was not really a priority. We wanted to create a moody atmosphere with dynamic lighting and dark walls.

This is the bathroom before we tore it apart. Contrary to how clean it looks in these pictures, we actually used it as a messy storage/junk closet to wash out skanky paint brushes and food containers before we had a real kitchen. At one point our Christmas tree was being stored in there!

First, we had to scrape the stucco from the ceiling. The room is only about a 4.5' x 4.5' so it was more work to re-drywall than to scrape it. We added a large 4' x 2.5' custom cut mirror with accent lighting behind as well as a recessed double light fixture in the ceiling for overhead directional light. Chris made the vanity and countertop because we could not find one that was affordable and the right size. We biscuit joined 1" x 6" zebra wood boards to form a faux solid wood surface. It was then clear coated with satin marine varnish for a nice finish plus extra protection against water damage. We also added in-ceiling speakers so you can listen to music while you do your business (and so no one can hear you do your business). We kept the original neutral gray herringbone tile flooring. We don't love it, but it continues into the front hallway and we decided the cost of changing it wasn't worth the benefit.
