DIY Mid Century Modern Plant Stand

I have been in love with these mid century plant stands for a long while, but I just can't bring myself to spend $260 on one. West Elm also makes a version that I love but it's still $160, sad face! But a few days ago I was looking for some table legs online when I came across these ones from Home Depot and a light bulb went off - I could make my own damn mid century plant stand! 

Materials

Wood table top or tray (I picked up a wood bowl/tray from Winners

6" round taper legs - quantity 4

Angled top plates - quantity 4

Drill

Driver

Stain in colour of your choice

Gold spray paint (optional)

Plant pot to fit on your table top or tray

First, make sure the base for your plant stand fits your pot. I picked up a smaller version of this pot from ikea for $19. For the base top I decided to go with a wood bowl I found at Winners for $19.99; it fit my pot perfectly. 

Mark and pre drill holes in the wood where the plates will attach. Once you have the holes drilled, attach the plates with the provided screws. Since the screws on the legs were a little long causing the plates to not sit flush with the wood, I added washers under each corner of the plate to raise it up and give a little more space to the leg screw in.

Once all of the plates are attached, screw on your legs. I decided to paint the feet gold to match the hardware in my room, so I taped off the wood and covered the rest of the base with plastic and sprayed the metal with gold spray paint. 

When the spray paint is dry, remove the tape. I decided to stain my legs to match the wooden bowl I bought. If you use an unfinished wood top you can stain both the top and legs any colour you like. 

Once the stain is dry, apply a clear coat. Flip over your base and adjust your plant pot inside. Done!
