The Making Of: Our West Coast Master Bedroom
The most exciting part about moving to the West Coast is having another home to decorate! Ok, there are other fun things about moving to the opposite side of the country, like all the new adventures we are going to have and all the amazing soosh we will eat, but decorating? I LOVE this shit! It's on the top of my "fun things to do" list.
Before we left Newfoundland, we reached out to our favourite locally owned business in St. John's SAM Design to see if they were interested in collaborating on our Vancouver apartment. They said yes and we were over the moon! SAM is actually one of my clients from my freelance business Bold Creative. We do their marketing and photography and have been working together for a few years. It was only fitting that we teamed up on furnishings for our new west coast digs. Plus they carry THE BEST stuff, seriously! If you want some inspiration, follow them on Instagram or pop into their showroom (you can thank me later). For the bedroom project in particular, SAM brought on board one of their suppliers, Canadian company EQ3, to help furnish our tiny master bedroom. We have been fans of EQ3 for quite some time now. You can already find some of their product in our Newfoundland house so it was only fitting to dedicate an entire room to their beautiful pieces. What we love about EQ3 is that they offer super stylish, modern furniture at an affordable price. Win, win! Who says modern has to be crazy expensive?
Since the majority of our house back in St. John's is monochrome, we really wanted to do something a little different out here. And what's more different from monochrome than COLOUR! *Gasps* I know... scary huh? I figured this one year in Vancouver could be the perfect trial of living with colour!
We're staring with a blank slate - grey laminate floors, one huge window, and dreaded builder basic beige walls. The space itself is quite tiny (there is not enough room for full size night stands or even a dresser for that matter), so we had to be very selective when it came to what clothes we were bringing and how we were going to organize the space (we will share more on that in the coming months).
This suite is a rental so we were a bit worried we wouldn't be allowed to paint, but we ended up getting permission from the landlord. We painted the walls the same color as the doors and trim (CC40). SO MUCH BETTER.
Keep an eye out for the full reveal on this space, we will also be posting a full bedroom tour on our YouTube channel. If you aren't subscribed already, hurry over and do it!
Disclosure: Product of our choice was supplied by SAM Design and EQ3 for this project. Thanks for supporting our blog and the businesses that allow us to make this apartment happen.
